Questions People Ask

Written the way people ask them, answered the way an agent would across the table.

What is final expense insurance, in one sentence?

A small whole life policy — usually $2,000 to $50,000 at the carriers we list — that pays cash to the person you name once the claim is approved, so a funeral and the last bills are covered before the grief is.

Do I have to answer health questions?

That is the choice. One door asks a few yes/no questions (no exam) and usually costs less, with the full benefit from day one if approved. The other door asks nothing, accepts you by age, and pays a graded benefit for natural death in the first two to three years. We check the first door before offering the second.

How much does a funeral cost?

The NFDA's most recent published study (2023) put the median at $8,300 with viewing and burial and $6,280 with viewing and cremation, funeral-home goods and services only. Cemetery, marker, flowers and obituaries are typically separate.

Does Social Security pay for a funeral?

It pays a one-time $255 lump-sum death payment to an eligible surviving spouse or child. Nothing more.

Can I buy a policy for my mother or father?

Yes, with their knowledge and signature. You can own and pay for the policy and name yourself beneficiary; the carrier requires insurable interest, which a parent–child relationship satisfies. The parent answers any health questions.

Can I apply if I do not have a Social Security number?

Carrier rules differ and change; several require an SSN or ITIN. Tell the agent your situation up front and they will say which carriers can consider the application. We never ask for an SSN on this website.

Does the price go up as I get older?

No. The carriers we quote guarantee level premiums for life on these policies. The price is set by the age at which you buy.

Can my family use any funeral home?

Yes. The policy pays cash to your beneficiary, not to a funeral home. The FTC Funeral Rule gives you the right to an itemized price list and to buy only the services you want.

Will someone speak Spanish or Portuguese?

Yes. Licensed agents serve you in English, Spanish or Portuguese. Policy documents from the carriers are generally in English; the agent walks you through them.

Is my information sold?

No. Requests on this site go to the licensed agents of Vitality Health Advisors LLC (dba NovaVida Group) and are not sold or shared with other agencies.
