Buying A Policy For Your Mother Or Father

How it works when the person paying is not the person insured — and how we handle a call where the parent prefers Spanish or Portuguese and the child prefers English.

Talk To Your Parent First

The carrier requires the insured's knowledge and signature. Most parents are relieved someone is handling it.

Decide Owner, Payer, Beneficiary

You can be all three. Insurable interest between parent and child is satisfied; the money then lands with the person paying the funeral home.

One Call, Two Languages

Our agent can take the parent's health answers in their language and explain the policy to you in yours, on the same call.

If Your Parent Can Answer A Few Health Questions

Door one — final expense — usually costs less and pays in full from day one. The questions are yes/no, no exam, and the parent answers them.

If They Have Been Declined Before

Door two — guaranteed acceptance — accepts by age. Know the graded benefit: natural death in the first two to three years returns premiums plus interest; accidents pay in full from day one.

What To Have Ready

  • Parent's date of birth and state of residence
  • Current medications (for door one)
  • Who will be the beneficiary
  • How premiums will be paid (bank draft is common)
